Background[]
In 2010, a deadmau5 demo titled "Seeya Next Tuesday" surfaced online. This demo was circulated among various songwriters by Zimmerman's management to explore potential collaborative opportunities. By December 2010, a version featuring English pop singer Neon Hitch gained attention under the title "I Can't Behave Myself." [1]
Following the track's increased exposure, Zimmerman criticized the vocal version, stating on Facebook that it was "definitely not the direction I wanted to go with it," and indicated plans to revisit the track at a later time.[2] In his post, Zimmerman also speculated that an individual associated with his management or EMI must have invited Hitch to contribute vocals.
In a follow-up post, Zimmerman clarified that he did not view the situation as theft by Hitch, noting that the demo had been distributed by his own management. He also guessed that the leak may have been intentional as a publicity strategy, acknowledging that even negative attention resulting from controversy can be advantageous in the music industry.[3]
In 2014, the demo was ultimately reworked and included on while(1<2), featuring the vocals of Colleen D'Agostino from the band The Material. Her lyrics describe the emotions of a sleeper deeply immersed in the world they created within their dreams. On 6 December 2014, Zimmerman uploaded the song's instrumental to the suckscription service.
