"Quezacotl" is a song by deadmau5 that was released on 5 July 2024 as the lead single from the EP "some EP" under mau5trap.
Background[]
On 16 July 2023, a user made a post on the deadmau5 subreddit sharing a list of deadmau5 songs in alphabetical order. Through this list, fans realized that there was no song that began with the letter Q. Zimmerman saw the post and commented that he would make a new song that began with the letter.[1]
The song was first heard a few days later during a studio stream on 18 July 2023. However, its name wasn't revealed until 31 October 2023, when Zimmerman played a Day Of the Deadmau5 set in Mexico and dedicated the song to his Mexican fans.[2]
On 26 June 2024, teasers were posted on deadmau5 social media, linking to a song preview on SoundCloud. Its release date was revealed to be 5 July when it was uploaded to Beatport.

Trivia[]
- Before its name was revealed, fans confused the song with "Sever". This was because Zimmerman created both songs during his studio streams, but did not clarify which one was going to be the Q track.
- Quetzalcoatl is the Aztec god of wind, light and wisdom.
- The track's live visuals appear to be inspired by the Teotihuacan temples.
- The song's title has an shortened spelling, similar to "SATRN".
- It is possible that the spelling is a reference to the Quezacotl from Final Fantasy VIII.
- In a Reddit comment, Zimmerman said his favorite part of the song is the ending.[3]
