Mau5heads

Mau5heads are the iconic trademark of Deadmau5. Zimmerman created the design while learning how to use 3D modeling software. He was then given the idea to wear helmets by one of his friends, Jay Gordon. He first performed on stage with a mau5head during January 2008 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Disney Trademark Dispute[]

In early 2014, The Walt Disney Company filed an investigation regarding the Mau5head as a trademark. Disney argued that the logo was too similar to Mickey Mouse. Zimmerman thought that no one would confuse the two. He also believed he was targeted by Disney, as they were trying to appeal to the EDM market at the time.

On September 4, 2014, Disney used "Ghosts 'n' Stuff" in a Mickey Mouse Re-Micks video without Zimmerman's permission. His lawyers sent a takedown notice to Disney, which included a trademark infringement accusation, arguing that the use of Deadmau5's name in the video falsely implied his endorsement of it.

The dispute was resolved in June 2015.
